Research that Works!
DOE's Building Technologies Program works in partnership with states, industry, and manufacturers to improve the energy efficiency of our nation's buildings. Through innovative new technologies and systems-engineered building practices we are transforming how we design, build, and operate the approximately 15 million new buildings projected to be constructed by 2015.

BTP

Energy-efficient buildings are better buildings. They use less energy, cost less to operate, and improve comfort. They help the environment and our nation, improving our energy security as well as the everyday lives of Americans.

Join the Builders Challenge

DOE has posed a challenge to the homebuilding industry to build 220,000 high performance homes by 2012. The initiative, called the Builders Challenge, is part of DOE's commitment to reducing our nation's energy use by promoting energy efficiency in residential buildings. Builders can participate by meeting Builders Challenge levels of home performance, while gaining a competitive advantage. Homeowners can choose to buy energy-efficient homes and become educated about energy performance. Organizations can partner with the Builders Challenge to help meet national energy security goals. Join the Builders Challenge today!
