Annual Report on U.S. Wind Power Installation, Cost, and Performance Trends: 2007: Webcast Date: 7/9/2008Location: COPhone: (303) 384-6962 Ryan Wiser of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory gave a Webcast on July 9, 2008. The presentation lasted approximately 30 minutes and was followed by a half hour available for questions and answers.
During this Webcast Ryan Wiser of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory summarized key findings from the U.S. Department of Energy's recently released "Annual Report on U.S. Wind Power Installation, Cost, and Performance Trends: 2007 (PDF 4.0 MB) Download Adobe Reader." In following the contents of the report itself, the presentation provided a comprehensive overview of trends in the U.S. wind power market, with a particular focus on 2007. Drawing from a variety of sources, the presentation summarized the latest information on a variety of topics, including: wind project installation trends; wind industry developments; evolution of wind power sales prices; comparing the price of wind with wholesale market prices; installed wind project costs; wind turbine prices; wind project performance; O&M cost trends; and integration, transmission, and policy developments. Of particular note, the presentation highlighted data on project-level wind power pricing, installed project costs, and wind project performance that have not previously been summarized in as comprehensive a fashion as in the DOE report. National Energy Conference for Educators Date: 7/13/2008 to 7/17/2008Location: Galveston , TXHotel Galvez. In four activity-packed days, the conference provides teachers with the most up-to-date information on all aspects of energy, including the science of energy, sources of energy, transportation, consumption, electricity, efficiency, and environmental and economic impacts.
Conference participants receive the training and materials to implement innovative hands-on energy units for their classrooms, multi-disciplinary teams, and after-school programs. They also receive the materials, training, and support to conduct in-services in their areas to introduce the National Energy Education Development (NEED) program to others. NEED leaders at the conferences help participants develop specialized units that meet state standards and can be utilized with students of all learning styles.

Date: 7/15/2008Location: Custer , WIPhone: 715-592-6595 This one-day course is a prequel to the Midwest Renewable Energy Association wind systems workshops and for people who have an interest in residential size wind systems for their home or business. This course will inform students as to what wind energy is, how it works and what it can do for you. Topics will include: wind resources, basic system components, system types, turbine types, applications, and tower types. Please see the Web site for full information. Date: 7/16/2008 to 7/18/2008Location: Custer , WIPhone: 715-592-6595 This workshop will examine the design considerations that go into the manufacture of a wind generator. Components will be studied including their structure, function, materials, how they operate, and reliability to understand what choices various manufacturers have made for their products and why. All of the commercially available residential-sized wind equipment on the market will be considered. This workshop will help wind site assessors, equipment dealers, installers and home owners ferret out the pro's and con's of all the wind generator options in the market place. Please see the Web site for full information. Webcast: The Energy/Water Nexus: A case study of the Arkansas River Basin Date: 7/24/2008Location: COPhone: (303) 384-6962 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time, 10:00 a.m. Mountain Time, 11:00 a.m. Central Time, and 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time
This is to announce the third in a series of Webcasts sponsored by Wind Powering America with the purpose of reaching out to the Agricultural Community. The presentation will last approximately 1 hour and will be followed by a half hour available for questions and answers.
During this Webcast Stacy Tellinghuisen of Western Resource Advocates will be presenting on the topic "The Energy/Water Nexus: A case study of the Arkansas River Basin." Water is essential to sustain agriculture, municipalities, industrial operations, and many forms of electricity generation. As cities and electricity needs grow, finite water resources will become more stressed; increased ethanol production and climate change may exacerbate these stresses. Using the Arkansas River Basin in Colorado and western Kansas as a case study, Stacy will examine future water demands under "business as usual" and several alternative development scenarios. Date: 7/28/2008 to 7/29/2008Location: Cambridge , MAElectric Utility Consultants, Inc. (EUCI). As more and more states adopt Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS), the primary emphasis is evolving from policy making to implementation strategies. This conference will look at how utilities and their partners can proactively and cost-effectively identify the various opportunities and obstacles they will face in meeting RPS mandates.
Presentations will focus specifically on issues faced by utilities in the Northeast and upper Midwest. Because of the differing RPS designs and issues in various jurisdictions, the conference is designed to maximize opportunities for discussion and facilitate interaction among all participants. The presentations will provide information and highlight experiences that will serve as a foundation for the discussions.
