Ag Outreach Webcast: Wind Farming Date: 5/8/2008Location: COPhone: (303) 384-6962 9:00 am PST, 10:00 am MST, 11:00 am CST, and 12:00 pm EST
The second in a series of Webcasts sponsored by Wind Powering America with the purpose of reaching out to the agricultural community. The presentation will last approximately 1 hour and will be followed by a half hour available for questions and answers.
The topic of this Webcast is "Wind Farming" and will be presented by David Kolsrud. David Kolsrud has over 13 years of experience in renewable energy and is well recognized nationwide. He has helped to develop, organize, and fund over 20 renewable energy projects — primarily ethanol, biodiesel, and wind projects. In 2006, he formed DAK Renewable Energy, which manages 11 LLCs with investments in multiple renewable projects. David's thesis has been that community ownership of biofuels plants has had a significant positive benefit which can be repeated or enhanced using wind energy. He will talk about wind farming — some of the steps from conception to completion. David provides a supplementary document, "Locally Owned Energy Projects: From Conception to Completion (PDF 112 PDF) Download Adobe Reader."
Please find the details for the Webcast below and we look forward to having you join us.

New Great Lakes Wind Collaborative to Hold 1st Annual Meeting Date: 5/6/2008 to 5/7/2008Location: Buffalo , NYHyatt Regency Hotel. The Great Lakes Wind Collaborative (GLWC) will hold its 1st Annual Meeting May 6-7, 2008 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Buffalo, New York. The meeting will provide an opportunity for interested stakeholders to learn more about this new collaborative and become engaged in wind issues on a regional level. Presentations on the role of wind energy in meeting the Great Lakes region's energy needs of the 21st century as well as the Midwestern Governors Association's Energy Security and Climate Change Platform and its implications for wind energy in the Great Lakes region will be part of the program. Topical presentations and discussions on issues surrounding off shore wind development and environmental and wildlife impacts of wind power are also part of the two-day event. The newly-formed GLWC will unveil a first year workplan. Participants will be invited to provide feedback on the first year activities.
Breakout sessions will further provide participants with an opportunity to help shape future activities of the Great Lakes Wind Collaborative. Specific topical areas to be discussed include environmental planning, siting and permitting, research gaps, off shore aspects, transmission and power system integration, and economic development aspects of wind power. Interested stakeholders can go to the Web site to sign up for periodic updates on GLWC activities. A draft agenda and registration information for the meeting will be available on the GLWC Web site in the near future.
The GLWC is a group established to build consensus and identify and address issues affecting the planning, development, and operation of wind power facilities in the Great Lakes region. The GLWC provides a forum for dialogue and an opportunity for analysis and exchange of information among key stakeholders to facilitate sustainable wind power development in the region.
The Great Lakes Commission serves as the Secretariat for the GLWC, with funding in part from the U.S. Department of Energy - National Renewal Energy Laboratory. Date: 4/23/2008 to 4/25/2008Location: Girdwood , AKWe welcome you to attend the 2008 International Wind Diesel Workshop being hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the Alaska Energy Authority, and the Renewable Energy Alaska Project. It has been almost four years since the last wind-diesel workshop and the technology has expanded in nature and application. New systems have been installed from Alaska to the Galapagos Islands and several older sites have seen large expansions. The rising cost of diesel fuel and the maturing of the wind industry is continuing to spur the market forward, with projects being planned or implemented from Mongolia to Antarctica. As with all of the workshops in pervious years, this one will focus on what has worked, and what has not, bringing the wind-diesel community together to share and discuss the current status of the technology and where we feel it should be going. Please come and join us.

Participant Passcode: 5081084 Arkansas Wind Conference Date: 1/16/2008 to 1/17/2008Location: Fort Smith , ARAttended by Wind Powering America. Bethel Regional Wind Development Workshop Date: 1/10/2008 to 1/11/2008Location: Bethel , AKBethel Cultural Center. This meeting is being held to discuss regional wind development in the Yukon and Kuskukwim (Y-K) delta region of western Alaska. In light of diesel prices that continue to rise, strong community interest, and successful wind-diesel projects already installed at the towns of Toksook Bay and Kasigluk, this workshop will try to set the stage for expanded wind development in the Y-K region.
First Day
The focus will be to give people without much background in wind energy an introduction to it.
Second Day
The second day will focus on how wind resource development might be done on a regional basis in the Y-K delta. Speakers will give short presentations on topics such as how regional wind development could affect the local business environment and educational community, examples of other successful regional approaches, potential public-private partnerships, and the pros and cons of bulk purchasing, shipping, and installation of wind turbines. After the presentations, a facilitated discussion will take place to collect input from the participants about regional needs and find out what people think about approaching wind energy development from a regional perspective. The goal of the second day will be to come up with a clear set of community recommendations on how to proceed.
People should feel free to come to one or both days of the event. Many people have already been introduced to wind energy and may decide to come only to the second day, so they can participate in the regional wind development discussion.
Who Should Attend?
Our goal is to have as much participation at the event as possible. In particular, we are targeting village administrators, traditional council members and tribal leaders, electric utility managers and operators, business people, and other regional stakeholders who may have an interest in how wind energy could decrease the amount of diesel necessary to generate electricity in communities across the Y-K Delta.
There is no registration fee. However, for planning purposes, we are asking that people please register for the event no later that January 3, 2008. Limited travel scholarships are available to help people get to Bethel for the event. Please contact Martina Dabo, Wind Program Manager, Alaska Energy Authority to apply for travel support.
